This course is in the best shape I have ever seen, its more like country club conditions. The greens are pristine and the fairways like carpet

While everyone wants to come to Bethpage to play the Black, those players will find quite a challenge in the adjacent Red Course.
I play from the Men-s or White tees, which is over 6500 yards. While this is somewhat lengthy for the average golfer, most of the holes provide a generous landing area for those who like to grip it and rip it.
You get a sense of what you are in for right on the 1st tee. At about 460 yards from an elevated tee to a valley and then back uphill to the green, it is quite daunting. Needless to say, I have never gotten home in 2. The rest of the front is fair, until the 9th hole which is another 440 yard behemoth.
The shortest par 4 hole on the back 9 is the 385 yard 13th, which sports a split fairway with bunkers down the middle from 200 yards out almost all the way to the green. Every other par 4 is well over 400 yards. For example, #10-416, #11-418, #14-421, #15-452(uphill). Get the picture. Most average golfers will have to chip and putt their best to score on this course.
There are only 2 par 5-s, which makes this a par 70 layout. I feel like many of the 4-pars are more like par 4 1/2-s.
There are many times throughout the season when the course is unavailable due to the fact that many Metro area, college, and high school tournaments are often played on this challenging course.
Like all the of the 5 courses at Bethpage, the Red is always in fantastic condition. Weekday price for a NY resident is $36, out of staters pay double. To those who come to Bethpage to play the Black, do yourselves a favor and give the Red a try. You will not be disappointed.

Challenging course at a fair price. It is in tremendous shape for a public course that gets played on continuosly everyday. Fairways are great, greens in good shape, and rough is thick as hell.

the whole bethpage state park complex with its 5 golf courses is fantastic.... the black course ( us open 2002, 2009) is the best value in the world.. the conditions on all 5 courses are amazing. the red is not as tough as the black but with its brutally long par 4s, its not too far away.. i would reccommend this course to anyone who want great golf at a great price.
